Module 1: Your First Phonics Sounds

Learn the basic alphabet -A-Z. 26 phonic sounds.

Module 2: Beginning Blends. 30 combinations

Short a blends – at, an, ag, ap, ad, am

Short e blends -et, en, eg, est, ed, ell

Shirt i blends – it, in, ig, ip, id, ill

Short o blends – ot, ox, og, op, ob, ock

Examples of words are attention, again, egg, tell, lit, into, silly, pot, oxen and lock

Module 3: L, R and S Blends. 18 combinations

Learn L blends – bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, sl

Learn R blends – br, dr, fr, gr, pr, tr

Learn S blends – st, sn, sm, sp, sk, sw

Examples of words are black, flower, play, bridge, from, tram, street and spoon.

Module 4: Digraph Beginnings and Endings. 12 combinations

Learn sounds like ch, sh, th, wh and ph, and words like child, shed, the, them, why and phone. As well as endings with ch, sh, th, nd, ng and nk, with words such as rich, wash, teeth, sand, ring and bank.

Learn the voiced and unvoiced ‘th’ sound, for example, voiced ‘the, that and this’ and unvoiced ‘think or bath’.

Also learn the alternative letters – g, c, y, y, s and o. 6 letters and sounds.

Module 5: Long Vowels. 12 combinations

Learn these combinations: ai, oa, ea, ee, ue, ui, plus ow, oe, ay, ey, ie and ew.

We will learn words such as paid, toad, read, feed, blue, fluid, low, toe, lay, valley, pie and dew.

Module 6: Diphthongs, Silent E and Long R. 8 sounds.

Learn these diphthongs: oi, oy, ou, ow, au, aw, aw, oo and oo.

Kids will learn words like join, toy, our, bow, taught, paw, soon and ‘oo as in uh’.

Silent E sounds – a_e, i_e, o_e, u_e, e_e, learning words like cake, theme, kite, home and flute. 5 combinations.

Long R sounds – er, ir, ur, ar and or. 5 sounds, with words like her, bird, surf, star and fork.

Module 7: Trigraphs. 6 sounds

str, squ, sir, thr, igh and wor. Learn words like street, square, screen, through, light and word.

Also master the extra trigraphs: 6 sounds – all, air, are, ear, ear, eer, with words like fall, pair, dare, hear, earth and deer.

Module 8: Common endings and Silent letters. 12 sounds.

Common endings – tion, sion, ture, ous, dge, tch.

Learn words such as station, television, adventure, dangerous, bridge and catch.
